By the day after we arrived at Grand Canyon Park Headquarters we had some idea of what could be seen by taking the free shuttles. Becky wanted to visit Hermit's Rest at the far west end of the shuttle route. It's about a 13-mile trip and a hundred years ago would have taken three to four hours by buggy. Travelers were ready for a rest and some refreshment when they arrived. It takes only a few minutes by motor coach now, even with a few stops on the way. However, we had a few minutes at the central transfer point before we caught the shuttle.
This observation point overlooks part of the beginning of the Bright Angel Trail. We waited there a few minutes before getting in line for the shuttle.

This canyon wall is much brighter in the morning sun. We managed to get up and around early because we were still on Central Time.
I think I moved over some to get this photo of the cliff with two pine trees. Actually, I was photographing an upper part of Bright Angel Trail where it comes out of a tunnel. The tunnel is the brighter area below the big pine.
This photo shows some of the hikers on the lower trail.
This dome shaped pinnacle was a distinct feature of the area of the canyon near Hermit's Rest.
Ann walks down the walk to the rest area.
The trees provide perspective.
Louis was checking the menu at the concession stand.
We all gathered in the immense fireplace for a group photo.
